Have
you ever had a conversation like this? "Where do you want to go today?"
"Oh, I don't know. Where do you want to go?" "Well, it is your
vacation. I want to do what you want to do." "I was trying to let
you have a vacation too, honey . You decide." "No, no! You decide."
"Oh, OK. Let's go to the zoo." "I don't want to go there!" Trying to decide what to do with that special time that you have been blessed with can be a hassle. Whenever there are others involved, most of us would like to see them happy as well. Sometimes when it comes to vacation time, we have trouble deciding. But far better that we have a little exchange like the one above than let our selfish desires take over and other people's needs ignored. Paul had some guidelines to help us do what is right for everyone concerned. He said, "Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind let each of you regard one another as more important than himself" (Philippians 2:3). If all of us followed that pattern, everybody would find happiness. And if no one but you is following it, you'll find fulfillment even when others aren't. Getting along in the family of God is very important. The Lord Jesus said that others would know that we are His followers by how we love each other. You can't really love someone else when you are only working at loving yourself. Follow Jesus, put others first!
