The Ouchie
Once, on a shopping outing, I had 2 year old Daniel in my cart at one of our favorite stores. We had been having a great time as he asked for things I told him he couldn't have! I turned away for a moment to peruse some bargain and back to find Daniel holding his left index finger in the air with a tear developing in his eyes.
In times past he had pinched his finger between to bars or discovered something on his hand he wanted looked at. This time was different. He had a small cut and indicated he had got it on the chrome bars of the cart. I looked to find chrome flaking off were the cart had been very roughly hit. The pealing coating was hard and sharp. His finger had splinters of the stuff in it.
When we bang carts around, we probably never think of the long-term consequences. There is a Scriptural principle that fits with this: What ever we sow, that's what we will reap! Even though it may be years down the line, the course we set now will make a difference. In 1 Thess. 3:3, Paul spoke of how the afflictions in his life and ministry were "destined." He had chosen a course of following Jesus that, in his case, led through deep waters. But he faced it with joy and positive expectation knowing it was God's will.
Have you given any thought today to what God wants and how it effects your future? We should start every day asking the Lord to lead us in His path and direction. If we don't we may find we have banged carts together and paid the price.
