A few years ago a church youth group
traveled to Mexico to experience a little cross cultural ministry. When they arrived
at one church, they found
the structure burned with only the rock sides remaining. They sat in silence
for a while looking out the window of their van when they noticed some faint singing
coming from the burned out
shell. Inside they found a small group of believers worshipping together.
After a few moments of staring at each other,
the locals asked the visiting students why they were there. After an awkward pause
one spoke up, "We came to serve." The pastor and people cried explaining that
since their church had burned
6 months earlier they were praying that God would send help to rebuild.
One of the visitors said smiling, "Hey, we're
and answer to prayer!" Are you an answer to prayer? Has God used you to touch
anyone's life? Have you
chosen to be a blessing to others. In Luke
22:24-27, Jesus exhorted His disciples
that to be like Him they needed to choose to be servants. He said, "I am among
you as one who serves" (verse
27).
Think about it. The Creator and Savior is a servant!
Yet so often we strive for power and for others to serve us. To be like Jesus
means that you chose to
serve others.
Do something today to show the love of Jesus
to someone who doesn't understand. You may be the only demonstration of that love
they will ever get. You
may be the only way they will know that Jesus came to serve.
