I
never had the privilege of serving in the armed forces of the United States. The
closest I ever got to a position with a uniform was when I was a Boy Scout in
grade school. I am not even sure I ever owned a full uniform. I know I had a shirt
and tie of sorts, a sash and a few patches. Whenever I wore the uniform I felt like I was representing the Boy Scouts and the church the troop met in. To be a Boy Scout meant I was "always prepared" and held to a code of conduct. I think I might have been a little more aware of that whenever I had the uniform on. This portion of Colossians 3 is a very pregnant passage. There are at least 6 lesson possibilities here, so read it carefully. But verse 17 is the clincher, "Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus... " As a follower of Christ, what you do represents Him to the world. In a sense, you wear a uniform. Also when you do things unbecoming of Christ you represent Him poorly. Why not run your words and deeds through a constant filter? What would Jesus want me to say? What would Jesus want me to do? How would Jesus want me to act or react? Where would Jesus want me to go? I work for Him and represent Him in all I say and do and wherever I go. Remember Whom you serve today and represent Him well.
