It
was the biggest game I had ever been in. I had finally made the baseball
All Star team in the sixth grade after what seemed a lifetime (actually this was
only my third chance). I played catcher and outfield and had some pretty
good stats during the regular season. I was catching for the only slider
thrower in the sixth grade, was fast enough to get by, and could usually keep
my head in the game. It was the first time I really remember having the chance to be a hero. The bases were loaded with two outs and I was the next batter. Tension knotted my stomach as I walked up to the batter's box and took my stance. But alas, no glory that day. I struck out. I want to be a winner. Most likely, you do too. But we can't always win at baseball or any sport. To truly be triumphant, you must overcome. John told his readers, and that includes you and me; "whatever is born of God overcomes the world, and this is the victory that has overcome the world - our faith." (1 John 5:4) How's your faith? This old world seems to be pushing in on us all the time. Even a cursory check of the news can make us think that things are really falling apart. We can even develop fears because of the onslaught. You may be wondering if you have enough faith to overcome. Look again at the verse. Those who are"born of God" ARE ALREADY overcomers. Your faith is sufficient. Just exercise it!
