This week our thoughts
turn to the manger scene, shepherds, Magi and attending angels. Most everyone
knows that the angels who appeared to camping shepherds said "Glory to God
in the highest!" (Luke
2:14). How many times have you watched little children pageant out
the Christmas story and never really thought about what it might be that would
truly glorify God? As we race toward the end of the year and the millennium, how appropriate it would be to seek to glorify Jesus in our own lives. One thing that glorifies Him is to "Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" (1 Peter 3:18). You could start on your New Years resolution now! Growing in "grace and knowledge" means you will need to make an effort to know Jesus Christ better. Be studying God's word, praying and listening for His voice. Just learning to think of Jesus as the Person He is in your life will help you to accomplish that goal. Don't wait next year to get started. You can do as the angels said and glorify God now. You might start right now by thinking about the Christmas carols you are singing. When you sing the words, mean them! Remember that St. Nicolas, whether person or legend, originally pointed people to Jesus. Remember when you see Christmas lights that Jesus is the Light of the World. Ask the Lord to show you how you can better honor and grow in the grace and knowledge of the Savior. He loves to have your attention! What better Christmas present could you give Jesus this week than to truly give Him the glory and honor He deserves? Have a blessed and merry Christmas.
