Skiing
season is now over and I can let the truth be known: I am not much of a skier!
I love skiing so little that I haven't gone in several years. It's a shame
there wasn't someone around to video the "show" my last time out. I have
a terrible time making turns so my method of choice is to ski in a straight line
and fall down if necessary to make a turn! Fortunately, no one ever got hurt!
Skiing is a good illustration of the spiritual life.
As in skiing you have to know when you are heading into trouble and
when you need to turn. If you don't learn how to handle that sort
of stuff, you may look like the "agony of defeat" skier in the ABC sports
program opening! A crackup at high speed can be fatal.
Lot was a righteous person (2 Peter 2:7-8), but after
he had been in close association with Sodom for a while, his family had
been corrupted, and he had no real witness. He even got slow in
responding to the Lord's direction.
Genesis 19:16 says that
when Lot was told to flee, "he hesitated. So
the men (angels) seized his
hand" to get him out of Sodom before
destruction fell. Living in
close proximity to sin for so
long had taken its toll. Lot was in
a lot of trouble!
You can't see
how close you can get to sin and not expect
to pay a serious price. Lot's
downfall started with simply deciding
to move
to the Jordan Valley because
it "looked good" (Genesis 13:10). Be
on your guard! You too can get into a "Lot" of
trouble and the "agony of defeat" can
be very painful!.

Version unless otherwise noted.
