We
have a 3-gallon pump sprayer we use for treating the weeds and occasionally spraying
for bugs. Since water weighs about 8 1/3 pounds per gallon, when the sprayer
is full it weighs 25 pounds more than empty. Walking around the yard bearing that burden would be kind of tough if it weren't for one attribute of the pump sprayer. The farther you carry it, the more you spray out of it. The more you spray out of it, the lighter it gets. So unless you just like carrying the sprayer around to scare the weeds or bugs, the burden lessens as you go. When we answer the call to follow Jesus we all come into the relationship with a full sprayer. It's easy to continue to carry things from our past, like guilt, emotional pain, bad relationships or bitterness. Jesus wants us to let go of those things and carry His burden. Remember what He told His disciples and followers. "Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest้ For My yoke (harness collar) is easy and My burden is light" (Matthew 11:28 & 30). Just as the pump sprayer gets lighter as the liquid depletes, growing closer to Jesus provides relief from your load. My pump sprayer is like the load Jesus intends for me to carry. The sprayer weights less than a pound empty. When we carry the weight Jesus intended, the burden is light. Why not dump off your own burdens and just bear Jesus' yoke?
