Our
community has lately been suffering with an epidemic of colds and flu. A few folks
have missed the illness. We call them blessed! Drought continues to be a major concern in our part of the country. Some areas have gotten a lot more moisture than others. We think of them as blessed! The technological industry has taken a big hit in the last year. Some folks in our church have lost their jobs and others may still. Those with some security seemed to be blessed by God above the rest. But is our thinking Biblical? Can we be very blessed and not have these things? One problem in western style Christianity is that we have done as Job's friends did 5000 years ago. We tend to equate prosperity with spiritual blessing. Nice things and comfort are a blessing, but if we don't have them are we therefore not being blessed? Paul quoted David from Psalm 32 in Romans 4:7-8 when he said, "Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count against him." Eternal blessings are infinitely more important than temporal. If you have "the good life" or suffer in poverty, you can still be blessed with the knowledge that your sins are forgiven in Jesus! Spread the blessing today. Tell others how they can be blessed.
