We've
lived in three time zones in six states over the last 20 years. Each time we moved
we had some idea about where we were going, but it never completely prepared us
for what we actually encountered.
We knew Mississippi would be hot, but it was certainly hotter
than we expected. South Carolina brought us rain like we hadn't seen before. You
hear that western Kansas has blizzards, but until you see 30-foot high drifts,
you don't really get it. It gets cold in South Dakota, but the -50 below we experienced
changed our standards about cold. Before moving to Colorado, we knew there would
be elk in our yard, but having them eat from the bird feeder hanging from your
eve gives you a different perspective!
Though an artificial dividing line, moving on and new experiences
are what New Year's Day is all about. We feel like we have a chance to start over,
but at the same time, we don't know what is around the corner or what we will
experience. That part is God's hands.
Because of the Lord Jesus Christ, we can move on from our old
life to a new life. Paul wrote, "Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is
a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come."
(2
Corinthians 5:17) To move on from your old life and trust God for
your new one in 2001, make a commitment to Jesus
Christ, the One Whose birth reset the calendar. By trusting Him as your
savior, you start a new life; trusting Him day by day, you can live a new life.
