A
man walked into an old country store one day and observed a "Beware of Dog" sign.
As he cautiously looked around, he noticed a rundown hound lying on the floor.
The dog kept on sleeping. "Is that the dog the sign's about?" he asked the clerk.
"He doesn't seem much a threat." I had to put the sign up, 'cause people kept a tripp'en over him," answered the clerk. In western civilization, much of the church has become a toothless old hound. A "Beware of Church" sign would seem appropriate because someone might trip over it. One of the factors negating the church is hidden sin. In Joshua 7 we read the sad story of how one man's attempt to disobey God and literally cover it up, cost the lives of 36 other Hebrews. God was not going to bless Israel while a hidden sin remained in the camp. The only remedy was confession and complete eradication. You may think you are hiding your sin from other people, but God knows. You may be able to conceal your sin from your spouse or family, but God knows! You may not realize it now, but that sin could be causing you to miss great blessings and shortening your life. Confess it today, and receive God's loving restoration.
